TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested after hitting a Wal-Mart employee with his car trying to get away from police.

Christopher Parks, 32, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department.

On Sunday at about 9:12 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at Wal-Mart on West Tennessee Street. When officers arrived on scene, they saw Parks throwing personal items from his vehicle into the parking lot.

As officers tried to speak with Parks, he suddenly drove away, hitting a Wal-Mart employee.

Officers said Parks continued onto Capital Circle NW and West Tennessee Street driving recklessly in the wrong direction, back into the Wal-Mart parking lot where numerous residents were gathered and back onto West Tennessee Street toward Appleyard Drive.

A short vehicle pursuit then ensued in order to stop the immediate threat to people in the area. TPD officers performed a P.I.T. (Precision Intervention Technique) to safely stop the vehicle on Municipal Way.

Parks was arrested in the vehicle and charged with multiple offenses including hit and run with injuries and reckless driving.

He's also facing charges of fleeing and eluding with disregard of safety to persons or property, driving while unlicensed, and resisting an officer without violence.

The Wal-Mart employee sustained minor injuries after being hit by the vehicle and two TPD patrol vehicles had minimal damage.

Parks was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility.
