TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man has been arrested after police say he tried to kidnap a victim at knifepoint because she refused to have sex with him.

Darwin Johnson, 34, was arrested by the Tallahassee Police Department on Monday.

On Dec. 8, officers responded to Volusia Street in response to a report of an assault. When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the victim who was crying and had small cuts on her face.

Officers were told that Johnson hit the victim, assaulted her with a kitchen knife, tried to force the victim to leave with him, and ultimately drove away in the victim's car without her permission.

The victim told officers that she and Johnson have been in a relationship for three years and have lived together during that time. She said their relationship ended the night of Dec. 7-8, so they agreed that Johnson would move out the next day.

The police report states that when she went to sleep, she was awakened by Johnson who tried to convince her to have sex with him. When she refused, the victim said Johnson began hitting her without warning. She told officers that he wrapped his arm around her throat, applying enough pressure that she could no longer breathe.

The victim said she fought back and as she was doing so, Johnson began using his hands and fists to hit her.

Documents say Johnson then began demanding that the victim give him $60 that he was supposedly owed. The victim told officers that Johnson got a chef's knife and began threatening her with the knife as he continued to demand the money.

The victim explained that Johnson demanded she go to the bank with him immediately and make a withdrawal from her account. He then ordered her to go outside of the home and get into the car with him.

She said Johnson was still armed with the knife, so she complied.

According to the police report, once Johnson got into the victim's car, she ran back into the home and locked the door. Johnson was able to force the door open and held the victim at knifepoint again. Eventually, a witness convinced him to put the knife down.

The victim stated that Johnson told her that he was going to take her car and purposefully crash it before driving off.

Records indicated that officers have responded to their home multiple times regarding disturbances between the victim and Johnson.

Based on the evidence, he was arrested and charged with false imprisonment of an adult, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, and grand theft of motor vehicle.

He was taken to the Leon County Detention Facility. His bond has been set at $8,000.
