TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This summer, the City of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Police Department are inviting you to "Walk the Block".

It's all a part of Operation Safe Neighborhoods.

Officer Rachelle Denmark joined us in studio with details:

The Walk the Block program promotes public safety by organizing community walks through Tallahassee's neighborhoods.

Every other Thursday from 6-8 p.m. in June, July and August, police officers and City leaders will join residents and community groups as they go door-to-door in neighborhoods throughout the city to hand out important safety information.

Below is a list of upcoming Operation Safe Neighborhoods events.

  • June 14 at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1819 Saxon Street. Walking in the Greater Bond neighborhood.
  • June 28 at Gray Memorial Church, 2201 Old Bainbridge Road. Walking in the Town and Country neighborhood.
  • July 12 at Lafayette Heritage Trail Park, 4900 Heritage Park Boulevard. Walking in the Lafayette Park neighborhood.
  • July 26 at the Griffin Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 1100 Richmond Street. Walking in the Griffin Heights neighborhood.
  • August 2 at the Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, 700 Putnam Drive. Walking in the South City neighborhood.
  • August 9 at the Tallahassee Regional Animal Hospital, 2205 Danshire Drive. Walking in the Eastgate neighborhood.

Operation Safe Neighborhoods is designed to empower residents and help deter acts of violence by having police officers on the streets working with neighbors to start their own community watch groups.
