TPD honors retiree with celebration in city hall

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department honored one its own today with a retirement party.

Sergeant Kevin Taylor served Tallahassee as an officer for more than 28 years. Many in the community came out to city hall for the festivities.

Sgt. Taylor was presented many awards, along with many heartfelt speeches from members of TPD, who he built relationships with during his tenure. He said is grateful to his family, friends, Tallahassee Police Department and the community for the privilege of serving in the Tallahassee community.

"Well this is an opportunity for me to put the finishing touches on it and say my farewell to the officers that are going to continue this tradition on and continue protecting this community but it's not a goodbye by any means," said Taylor. "I'm gonna stay in touch with this people because once again I've built some relationships that I'm really really proud of."

Although Taylor's career as a law enforcement officer is ending, he will be starting a new career as the marshal for the first district court of appeals for the state of Florida.

Taylor says he's excited about this new challenge, and is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
