TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department and family members of those lost in the line of duty came out Thursday for TPD's annual memorial ceremony.

The memorial took place right in front of TPD's station, around the memorial plaque.

Officers lowered the flags to half staff, while Police Chief Michael DeLeo addressed the crowd.

Family members placed a single rose on the memorial to honor five fallen officers who died between 1981 and 2009.

DeLeo says he's honored to have the memorial every year.

"It's powerful. It reaffirms your faith in what we do," said DeLeo. "It reaffirms the commitment that we have not just to the community but to each other and taking care of each other."

The survivors say they come out to the memorial every year to pay tribute to their loved one and thank TPD for their continued support.
