TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police Department and partners were looking out for the little guys today, with child car seat inspections at the Red Cross.
Several parents lined up their cars when the event started to make sure that their children are properly secured. Research shows that four out of five car seats are improperly installed and more than 200,000 children under 14 are injured in motor vehicles each year.
Emergency management specialists inspected the vehicles and talked with Tallahassee parents about how to ensure child safety.
"You also want to make sure that the installation is correct," said TPD Certifed Child Safety Seat Technician Jody Henderson. "Whether it's with the lower anchor system, or whether it's with the seat-belt. And then three main things is that you want to make sure that it fits the car, fits the child, and it fits every time."
Parents who were unable to attend Friday's event but would still like their seats inspected can schedule an appointment with TPD. Appointments are available each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
