TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo held his quarterly an Evening With The Chief event at Walker Ford Community Center on Thursday.
DeLeo addressed a number of issues, including finalizing a contract for body cameras and creating an app that will give real-time notifications of crime and various information.
He also discussed the proposed Public Safety Campus that will serve as a gathering place for Southside residents and new TPD headquarters. That is a facility recently approved by the Tallahassee City Commisssion to move forward on.
It's a move community members and the chief feel can make an impact on area youth.
"We want to create more opportunities where people are active with the police department and active with the officers just because it's part of their life and routine," the chief said. "I'd love to walk out of my office and there be some kids playing basketball and spend 15 to 20 minutes and take a break from what I'm dealing with to just spend time with the kids and goof around. That's how you build relationships."
The next an Evening With the Chief event is scheduled for a date in May.
