THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) -- A dip in the pool is the perfect way to keep cool when the bright yellow ball in the sky makes the air feels like a literal sauna. So many of us rely on H20, in the form of the calming, cooling effects of the swimming pool. And Thomasville Pools and Spas, Inc. helps keep those pools in South Georgia clean.

“We do weekly accounts. We’ve got guys that go to pools everyday", says Chad Williams, Service Manager at Thomasville Pools and Spas, Inc. "We do take PMs (preventative maintenances). On the weekend we get calls. If there is an emergency we got to go deal with it.”

And they do deal with it. No matter how hot it gets. Pool cleaning during the Summer can be quite difficult. For instance, skimming the surface of a pool requires a lot of physical strength and in the Summer heat and high humidity, it is brutal.

Williams and his crew do everything from cleanings to maintenance, as well as installations and repairs. Plus, Thomasville Pools and Spas, Inc. balances chemicals to assist in keeping the pool clean.

"You got to know your water chemistry", said Williams, "You get down to adding quarts to pints. Even ounces of this stuff. All to the certain amount of gallons of water you have in your pool. So you got to be precise about it."

Williams and his crew are extra careful with certain chemicals, like chlorine and muriatic acid. “Some of the chemicals, they're hazardous. You got to be cautious. You wanna wear gloves on some chemicals you add," Williams said.

All that work for a few ounces of cleaner, but if you don’t get your pool cleaned, the heat of the sun can promote algae growth in your pool! Yuk!

With all of the physical work and water chemistry done in the hot sun, it can take its toll. "Humidity is a big thing. When the humidity is real high, it takes a drawl on all of us", said Williams, "You gotta keep a lot of water on you. Not only are we out here trying to keep everybody happy, we've got to stay healthy too."

But even with all of the demands of the job, Williams enjoys the perks. "I just enjoy working outside", he said, adding "You get to meet with the customers, getting to know them like family."

And it is because of this attitude, strength, and precision that Williams and his crew are in the running for the title of “Toughest Summer Job”.
