LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy is hospitalized in critical condition after he was shot during an apparent accident in a motel room near Atlanta.
DeKalb County police Lt. Mark Lavigne tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. Monday at a Knight's Inn in DeKalb County.
Lavigne told WSB-TV that "the information we're getting is that it's accidental."
Lavigne said the family is from North Carolina, and had just checked in at the motel on Sunday night.
Lavigne said the child was in surgery early Monday morning.
