TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - Monday marks the beginning of "Through with Chew" week in Florida.
Even though cigarette use is at an all time low among Florida youth, smokeless tobacco rates have remain mostly unchanged compared to a decade ago.
Tobacco Free Florida, in 2014, 5.4% of florida high school students reported current use of smokeless tobacco, compared to 5.6% in 2004.
Statistics from the area, show that the rate of use is even higher.
Smokeless tobacco rates among teens in Madison, Suwannee, and Wakulla counties sit at 14. 4%, 12.7% and 12.4%.
The public awareness campaign is looking to reduce the use of smokeless tobacco among teens.
