TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - April is National Donate Life Month, and Tuesday, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare held an event to bring awareness to the impact of organ and tissue donation.
During the ceremony, the Donate Life flag was raised, while Libby Smith shared how donation has impacted her life.
Smith is a Tallahassee local who received a heart transplant just seven months ago.
She says she appreciated the opportunity to tell her story.
"It feels wonderful because I'm not only pushing for organ donation which is very passionate to me right now, but in my opinion, I'm honoring my donor donors become heroes and we as organ transplant people we refer to them as heroes," said Smith.
According to organizers, Today, more than 35-hundred adults and children are waiting for life-saving organ transplants in Florida.
Hundreds of thousands more are waiting for tissue donations.
