TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (The News Service of Florida) - In an appearance expected to include discussion of gun issues, Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine will campaign Friday at Florida State University with former Arizona Congressman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly.
The event is scheduled at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the university's Oglesby Union, according to an announcement Wednesday from the campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Giffords nearly died in 2011 after being shot in the head, and she and Kelly have become prominent gun-control advocates.
"Kaine will be joined at the Tallahassee event by former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly, who will lay out their support for Clinton and Kaine's plans to tackle gun violence," the Clinton campaign said in announcing the event.
Also Friday, Kaine is scheduled to appear at 6:15 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium in Sarasota.
