TIFTON, Ga. (WTXL) — A Tifton school bus aide has been arrested after being seen on video punching a mentally handicapped child.
On Feb. 21, the Tifton Police Department Criminal Investigation Unit was requested by the Tift County Board of Education to investigate an incident involving a school bus aide and a mentally handicapped child.
The incident was reported to the Tift County Board of Education by the child's mother after the child came home with marks and bruising.
The investigation revealed, Judy Steverson, caused excessive physical pain to the child by hitting him with a closed fist causing marks and bruising on the child's arm.
The Tifton Police Department said video surveillance cameras on the school bus captured the incident.
Steverson was arrested on Feb. 27 and charged with first degree cruelty to children.
She was taken to the Tift County Jail.
