TIFTON, Ga. (AP) - City officials in Tifton are considering a tax increase aimed at hauling in an extra $1 million each year.

WALB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/11T3uTN ) the Tifton City Council faces a Monday deadline to decide whether next fiscal year's budget includes a proposed 3-mil increase.

Councilman Christopher Parrot says he thinks raising taxes is a mistake. But other city officials say they've cut the local budget all they can and have no choice but to increase revenues.

Tifton homeowner Carolyn Stevenson says she's concerned a tax hike could lead to more foreclosures on residents who are already struggling to pay their bills.
