TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Tifton elementary school principal Tammy Corbin is accused of using a school district issued credit card to pay her personal bills. 

According to an investigation by the GBI, the 49-year old charged over $1,500 to the card between July 2017 and January of this year.

Corbin the former principal of Charles Spencer Elementary School was arrested Tuesday. 

The school district responded with a statement, saying:

"Allegations of the mishandling of funds at Charles Spencer Elementary School were brought to the attention of the school system earlier this year. School officials immediately began an investigation. Taxpayers trust us to responsibly handle all money and we take that responsibility very seriously. We had already begun termination proceedings when Tammy Corbin resigned in March."


TIFTON, GA (WALB) - A principal of a Tifton elementary school was booked for theft Tuesday, June 5, 2018, according to a statement issued by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Principal Tammy Dill Corbin, 49, was arrested for felony theft by taking and booked into the Tift County Jail.

An investigation started in February when the GBI was requested by the Tifton Police Department to look into misappropriation of funds at Charles Spencer Elementary School.

An audit conducted by the Tift County School Board found suspicious purchases made on a credit card assigned to the elementary school. 

The investigation found that Principal Corbin had used the card to purchase personal items and pay personal bills. 

Corbin is said to have charged over $1,500 between July 2017 and January 2018.
