TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - The Tift County Board of Education approved a tentative budget that includes a $1 million tax reduction.
The total spending budget is just above $69 million.
The money will help finish up the big move this summer with the new school realignment.
With this budget, the school system plans to be more competitive with salaries.
"Some of our employers around us have recently increased their starting salaries and so that's kind of driven what we're looking at trying to get our salaries for some of our paraprofessionals and clerical staff to a more competitive rate," said Klinton Guess, the chief financial officer of the Tift County Schools.
The finance director also says the district will look to hire more resource officers with the money.
The final budget will be announced in June.
