TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- A local clinic has reopened its doors after the Florida Department of Health issued a Cease and Desist letter.
Thrive Hydration, a clinic that offers IV services, had to shutdown last Tuesday after being notified they needed to make some staffing changes.
The Department of Health now says that paramedics are no longer allowed to administer IVs outside of an emergency setting, and that all IVs given must be approved by a physician beforehand.
So Thrive has now hired several new nurses to perform the procedures, and is working with an online program to get every request approved by a doctor before the process starts.
"Before, the way we were operating as a clinic is that is the physician had written a set of general orders for the clinic, stating that if a patient comes in and meets the criteria, he gives his approval for them to be treated using IV therapy. The way the Department of Health has clarified it, is that physician needs to make that patient-specific," said Tyler Riddle, president of the Thrive Hydration Clinic.
Thrive Hydration opened its doors again on Monday. Employers are asking customers to be patient while they train a brand new staff.
Thrive Hydration is on Tennessee Street in Tallahassee. For more information, call (850) 765-3830 or click here.
