MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-car accident in Madison County Friday night.
Florida Highway Patrol said the accident happened at about 11:13 p.m. on I-10.
According to FHP, a Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane, while a Honda Accord was traveling in the right lane.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla told FHP that she swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road, which caused her car to spin onto the median and hit the guardrail.
FHP states the Toyota Corolla traveled back onto I-10, straddling the centerline of the eastbound lanes, completely disabled.
FHP said the driver of the Toyota Corolla got out of the car and ran to the shoulder of the road.
The Honda Accord ultimately hit the Corolla, causing the Accord to travel onto the shoulder of I-10.
According to FHP, the crash caused traffic to come to a standstill and resulted in two minor secondary crashes.
The driver in the Toyota Corolla suffered minor injuries, while the driver and passenger in the Honda Accord also sustained minor injuries in the accident.
FHP states everyone involved were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol did not play a factor in the accident.
FHP was assisted on scene by the Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison County EMS, and Madison County Fire Rescue.
