BRADENTON, FL (WWSB) - In the wake of Wednesday's deadly school shooting in Parkland, FL, Manatee High School here on the Suncoast received information Thursday of threats made against the school.
According to the Director of Communications with the School District of Manatee County, Micheal Barber, school officials located a threatening note Thursday morning.
The note was given to law enforcement who immediately began an investigation.
In a statement released by the Bradenton Police Department, officers said that the note contained threats against students and the school.
"On February 15, 2018, a Manatee High School student found a note containing a threat to do violence to persons at the school. School staff seized the note and the resource officer was notified at which time an investigation ensued."
BPD states that the note details a planned shooting that the author says they will carry out on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 12:15 p.m., on the Manatee High School campus. Detectives are actively pursuing leads and proactive measures have been set in place according to officers.
An electronic phone message was sent to all parents at Manatee high on Friday morning to let them know what happened and to assure parents that the school is taking every necessary precaution, according to Barber.
