TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL)--A huge crowd at the North Florida Fairgrounds this weekend for a gun show, this in the middle of the national gun control debate.
"I sold a lot of Ruger handguns this weekend, personal protection style guns, some of the military type of collectibles like AR-15, AK's, those types of guns sold as well," said Eddie Monk, owner of The Outpost.
The event featured concealed weapons classes and more than 200 tables displaying all sorts of items including guns, ammunition and accessories.
Eddie Monk, says guns are flying off his shelves but manufacturers are struggling.
"Hurricane Sandy messed up the Henry Factory in New York so the Henry Factory shut down well that took all the Lever rifles out of circulation and Rossi the other company can't keep up," said Monk.
He says that coupled with talks of gun control including restricting certain types of weapons, people are rushing out to buy them.
"Whatever we sale this weekend will be hard to replace next week," said Monk.
Monk says a big part of his business comes from gun shows like this one, the Victor Bean Southern Classic Gun and Knife show.
"People are buying them now for a couple reasons as an investment and because they think the price might go up and for availability because they might not be here," said Monk.
He says before you buy do some research.
"Be diligent and make sure you're informed," said Monk. "I wouldn't necessarily run out and buy something on a panic buy. Make sure you are informed and buy things that are appropriate for you."
The Victor Bean gun show will be back at the fairgrounds in March.
