(WTXL) - More than three million Floridians are still without power after Hurricane Irma, including thousands in rural communities within the Big Bend area.

Many people expected to lose power as the storm moved through the area but were hopeful the power would be restored quickly.

If all goes smoothly, electric companies that serve the more rural communities expect to have all the power restored by Sunday night.

Although many residents in Monticello are without power, they feel lucky only minor damage was caused as Irma passed through the region.

The mayor and several residents have made the rounds around town making sure everyone has what they need.
