WTXL -  Saturday marked the 50-th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday".

President Barack Obama, along side members of congress, gathered in Selma, Alabama to mark the anniversary.

In 1965, about 600 people marched from Selma to Montgomery, calling for equal voting rights and an end to segregation laws. The march turned violent as protestors tried to cross the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

WTXL spoke with a local woman who experienced that monumental march 50 years ago. Preferia Range described how officers were on horses, swinging billy clubs in the crowd, and hitting random people.

Students from from FAMU also traveled to Selma to participate in this weekend's events.
