THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - Cherokee Park in Thomasville is back open.
Monday, residents were out enjoying the sunshine and new walking trails after it was closed for nearly a year for construction.
Hundreds of community members use the park daily.
Thomasville City Engineer Wayne Newsome says they made many changes to the way the park will function. And those updates have even attracted out-of-town residents.
"Looking at the walking trails even though I don't have time to do the walking, but they are really nice," said Mary Wiseman, a Valdosta resident. "And I see a man out there on a boat, nice lake... it's just really nice here."
Wiseman says she's already made plans to come back with her family.
If you visit the park, you'll notice all the walking paths have been widened, and the trail was expanded to be one mile, and the public restrooms have been updated.
Even though the park is open, there are a few landscape projects left.
