Thomasville Police ask residents for help in preventing gun violence

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - The recent shootings in Thomasville has taken many residents by surprise.

In a matter of weeks there were two isolated shootings in Thomasville. Now officers are looking to the community.

They're asking you to help keep them informed of this aggressive type of behavior that often leads to gun violence.

Thomasville Police Captain Maurice Holmes said if officers knew about these ongoing arguments, it would've given them the chance to get involved before it escalated to someone getting shot.

"If you're aware of these types of disagreements, or these types of ongoing feuds and disputes go ahead and gives us a call," said Captain Holmes.

He said if you call, you can remain anonymous. Captain Holmes stated with residents help, it will allow officers to be proactive in their search for these types of crimes.

"Allow us to go in and investigate. You never know, you may prevent someone from losing their life," said Captain Holmes.

Like 32-year-old Akelious Hardy who was shot in the head on October 31 and died the following day.

Now the suspects, Micharius Johnson and Braden Davis, are in the Thomas County jail facing murder charges.

Captain Holmes said this is one of those cases that should've never happened.

"When you have people that go out and continuously use firearms as a result of them being angry, or in a dispute, a spur the moment thing that's going to a life time effect, or end the life of someone, it's pretty impactful," said Captain Holmes.

We spoke with a few residents who didn't want to be interviewed on camera, but said they live near where these crimes are happening. They said their neighborhood is usually pretty quiet.

But, after the second shooting Sunday evening they worry these crimes may become more frequent.

Investigators stated the community can take ease knowing the recent shootings in Thomasville aren't gang related, but they're diligently working to find ways to keep the city safe.
