THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - Much-needed upgrades are coming to one Thomasville neighborhood, thanks to a major grant from the state of Georgia.

Thomasville was awarded three-quarters of a million dollars to improve the Fletcherville community.

The city was one of 59 Georgia communities to receive a 2017 community development block grant. Officials worked with residents to address the key concerns in the neighborhood.

"We've previously received complaints about drainage, and this gave us an opportunity back in January of this year to formalize those complaints or these issues from the neighborhood – and then put them in an application to DCA, and now, we have the funds to address them," said Jerry Pionessa, Thomasville's assistant city manager.

The project will include sidewalk construction, drainage improvements, and sewer rehab.
