THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) - Thursday, a hospital in Thomasville took part in a large scale preparedness drill.
In light of domestic terror, and mass shooting events like the Orlando night club shooting that proved to be one of the most deadly events in recent history, preparation for worse case scenarios is key, especially for medical centers.
That's why Thursday's drill was focused on preparing first responders for an active shooter situation.
The drill began at the Archbold Ambulatory Center and later moved to the hospital's emergency room.
In all, there were 12 mock victims who were assigned a variety of injuries.
A few hours later, a mock press conference was held to answer questions and give details about the the drill.
Chuck Winchester, emergency management coordinator said, "The more we train, the better we are prepared when it actually does happen. I'm very pleased to be living in a community like Thomasville and Thomas county where we all work very well together. And the open communication between the organizations is wonderful in this community."
The drill was not only training for the various organizations involved directly, but good practice for communicating to the public so they can stay informed should a real-life situation occur.
After months of planning, the drill was a success for Archbold Memorial Hospital.
