THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - The 97th Annual Rose Show and Festival is underway in Thomasville.

Thousands of people will descend on Georgia's Rose City over the next two days, but Thursday night was all about the children.

Hundreds lined the streets in downtown Thomasville to watch the Children's Rosebud Parade.

This parade had everything, including colorful floats, dancers, and marching bands. Those in the crowd see this parade as a way to get excited for the rest of the Rose Show and Festival.

"It gets them all psyched and ready for it, especially tomorrow night, which

is the big one," said a parade spectator, Gayle McFadden.

Many of those in the parade were students in Thomas County schools and extracuricular activities. Siblings, parents, and grandparents came out to show support and love for the kids.

"I'm proud that she got picked to be in it, said Timothy Parker, another spectator. "All the children can't march. The teachers pick one, you know, pick some, and she was lucky enough to get picked."

The festivities continue Friday with "Orchids on Parade" starting at 9 a.m., but the Rose Show kicks off at 1 p.m. Hundreds of rose varieties will be on display.
