Thomasville council members to decide on future of Pinetree Boulevard

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - Pinetree Boulevard residents say they are not in favor of turning the road into three lanes.

Nearly 60 people were in attendance for a listening session Monday night.

When polled, residents said they would either like to see Pinetree Boulevard as a widened two-lane road or leaving the road alone and having it resurfaced.

This all comes after more than a year of controversy over county and city rights to the road and the difference in opinion on the plan for improving it.

Council member Jay Flowers says community feedback is important.

"I think that's very telling, I think it is the people that are concerned about speed particularly in safety on the road as it is understood that if you widen the road everybody believes it's going to make people go faster so your really not going to resolve the issue most people are concerned about," said Flowers.

Flowers says the city staff plans to compile the data and present it to the council members.

He hopes that the council will review everything discussed at that meeting before voting.
