THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Thomas County leaders are preparing for the cold weather and possible snow, by warning drivers about the dangerous road conditions that Wednesday's weather will bring.
The bridges and overpasses are mainly where Thomas County Sheriff's deputies say they see the most problems with ice.
Two weeks ago, there were 12 wrecks in one morning due to the ice. They hope that does not happen again.
County crews are erring on the side of caution, coming out in the early morning hours and treating the bridges.
"The thing we ran into a couple weeks ago is the roads were fine until suddenly you got to the bridges and you got on the bridges and people would start to feel it sliding and hit the breaks and suddenly it was around and round we go," said Capt. Steve Jones.
If you see blue lights Wednesday morning, assume there is ice and slow down.
If you get on a road with ice, officials say the last thing you want to do is touch the breaks. Do your best to steer, but breaking is what they say, causes accidents on ice.
