THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - Thomas County has been working all weekend to help community members prepare for the storm.

One way they're doing that is offering free sandbags for people who live in low lying areas that hold a lot of water.

Thomas County Public Work officials say people should take the sandbags and place them outside their doors, as that is the lowest point of entry into the home.

Bags were given out Saturday and Sunday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m and people could take up to five bags.

Officials say people need to monitor water levels in their area and leave their home if they see water levels rising.

Public Works says if drivers come across a road that has been flooded, even a little bit, don't drive through it.

You should call 911 and report what you see, then find an alternate route.
