THOMAS Co., (WTXL) -- A Thomas County Deputy resigned just hours after being suspended for a comment made on social media.

Deputy Jason Shierling stepped down from his position Wednesday night after the Sheriff's Office suspended him for a post made on social media.

The post in question said, "Lolz, these are the same people that want 15 an hr, the same people screaming "black lives matter" it's very clear they matter to you! I would've loved to have rolled up on this. If you aim right you could've gotten both of them on the same cartridge, let them ride it together!"

It appears the comment was made in response to a video of people fighting at a McDonald's.

Shieling was to remain suspended as an investigation was conducted by the department, before his decision to resign.

Officials with the Thomas County Sheriff's Office say his comments are not reflective of the entire department.

"We have a strict policy against this type of social media posting -- anything that would bring any type of doubt, mistrust to the -- distrust to the office is not tolerated, period," said Captain Steve Jones.

This was Shierling's first job in law enforcement and had been a deputy for 18 months. The department says he had a clean record.
