VALDOSTA, GA. (WTXL) - April is sexual assault awareness month, and many organizations are shining a light on the issue.
Tuesday evening, the valdosta community gathered for their 10th annual Take Back the Night event. The event is held on Valdosta State's campus every year, and encourages students and community members to speak out about sexual violence.
The event featured a discussion led by Dr. Keith Edwards, a scholar and educator in sexual violence prevention. Organizers with the event say it's important to educate people on the issue, because it's something that can effect anyone.
