TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - The U.S. Forest Service held a prescribed burn Tuesday in the Apalachicola National Forest.
The 1,065 acre burn took place in Liberty County south of Telogia and west of State Road 65.
The goal of the burns is to improve wildlife habitat, eliminate vegetation build up and reduce the threat of wildfires.
Motorists are cautioned to drive slowly with lights on while traveling in smoky areas. Drivers should be particularly cautious in areas where prescribed fires have taken place when it is foggy. Morning fog can mix with smoke and decrease visibility further.
The Apalachicola National Forest will conduct many burns during the 2015 prescribed burning season.
