TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The gift giving season is in full swing, and for many parents, the search for the perfect toy is underway. But before you choose a present to stuff a stocking or place under your tree, there are some things you may want to consider.
Christmas is almost here which means there will be plenty of new toys for your children to play with, but it is important to make sure that they are age appropriate.
Pediatric Critical Care Physician Paul Martinez says the big two important safety issues regarding children choking and head safety.
Doctor Martinez adds it is very important for kids to use a helmet if they get any gift with wheels, and has these words of wisdom.
"If a toy or a gift seems dangerous, it very well maybe dangerous and maybe it's not the correct gift to be given," said Martinez.
He also asserted, "I think nothing substitutes for direct supervision."
Most toys that may create problems usually have some sort of hazard warning on the front of the box in plain view.
Make sure to see which toys have a choking hazard warning and to keep a close eye on your kids when they are playing with those toys.
