LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - As our area continues this stretch of stormy weather, Leon County officials warn residents to stay alert when it comes to flash flooding.

The sudden down-pours can lead to serious problems on the roads and can quickly damage properties that aren't protected.

But there's good news here: Leon County has cancelled a flash flood watch that initially stretched into Thursday morning. And it doesn't matter where you live, officials say flash flooding can impact any neighborhood.

Leon County Emergency Management says the area has different types of geographic terrain, some of which are low-lying, where water might accumulate.

When we generally think of flooding, the areas of concerns are by river basins, where water may overflow into flood plains.

But flash flooding is different as emergency management director Kevin Peters explains:

"With flash flooding, that's really going to be a factor of how fast the rainfall comes down in any location," he explained. "Anywhere that it rains has the possibility for flooding, so we can't pinpoint any single area. Anywhere you live in Leon County, all citizens need to be aware of the risk that flash flooding poses."
