MIDWAY, FL. (WTXL) - The City of Midway receives a $75,000 from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for septic tank surveys.
The city will use the money to survey septic tanks located in three of its neighborhoods. The goal of the project is to assess the location and severity of septic tank failures in the Rustling Pines, Orion Point and Hilltop subdivisions. The results of the survey will give the city a better understanding of what the cost will be to convert approximately 100 homes to a new wastewater-collection system.
The Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. says, "DEP is excited to see the city of Midway begin examining the possibility of connecting so many of its residents to regulated wastewater-treatment systems. This is a positive first step toward eliminating a negative impact on Florida's environment."
The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
