TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Veterans are volunteering to help celebrate and commemorate their brothers in arms in the Capital City tonight.
The Big Bend Honor Guard is an organization made up of volunteer veterans, who are veterans who volunteer their time, working with the Support Committee of the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
They provide interment honors for veterans, and on Thursday, they met to discuss general procedures and practice what goes into these procedures.
The guard also honored Robert Coverdale, an airman with the United States Air Force.
As requested, the group performed Taps and a flag detail.
The volunteers in the guard see this organization as an opportunity to help the families of veterans pay respect and give recognition to the fallen.
Member John P. Folsom says they do about two of these ceremonies a week, and will be performing another one Friday morning.
He says they have been doing the ceremonies since the Tallahassee National Cemetery opened.
