TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The 40th annual Steven C. Memorial Regatta will sail into town the weekend of April 26.

The event has been held for each of the past 39 years at Shell Point Beach on the Gulf of Mexico in southern Wakulla County. The regatta is in memory Steven Smith, a local sailor that died at the age of 29 from a rare form of leukemia. As a result, the event is a benefit for the American Cancer Society.

Sailors and sailing afficianados have flocked to the event in past years --there have been as many as 200 registered participants and hundreds more spectators. Those attending this year can expect races between various vessels including catamarans, monohulls, and windsurfers.

The 2013 event organizers are the Shell Point Sailboard Club (SPSC), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Apalachee Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) and numerous businesses and individuals.

The Steven C. Memorial Regatta will be held April 26-28. For a schedule of events, to register, or to find more information, visit www.smithregatta.com.
