TFD gives firework safety tips

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It’s a tradition every Independence Day. People light up the sky to celebrate.

Some watch them at a public event like this, but others set them off in their backyards and neighborhoods.

But before you get your sparklers ready, the Tallahassee Fire Department wants to make sure you’re safe at all times.

"The number one cause of burns for the Fourth of July is obviously fireworks. We recommend that if a firework doesn't start, you don't want to re-light it," said Sarah Cooksey with the Tallahassee Fire Department. "We recommend having a bucket so when you get done with the fireworks you don't dispose them in your trash can. Don't allow children to be unsupervised with fireworks."

TFD says there's around seven to eight people dying every year across the county from firework-related injuries.

They recommend going to a city-sponsored event to see a fireworks show.
