MIAMI (AP) - Testimony is wrapping up in the trial of a South Florida man who says he fatally shot his wife in self-defense before posting a photo of her dead body on Facebook.
Circuit Judge Yvonne Colodny says she hopes the trial of Derek Medina will end before Thanksgiving. Final defense witnesses were scheduled to testify Tuesday, tentatively followed by closing arguments.
Medina faces life in prison if convicted in the August 2013 killing of 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso at their South Miami home. Medina told police in a videotaped confession that Alfonso abused him for years, including the day of the killing.
Medina says he posted the photo to show family what he did and explain why. Prosecutors say Medina killed Alfonso because she threatened to leave him.
