TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An event Wednesday is gearing towards helping children of refugees and immigrants reconnect with their families.

WTXL's Jada WIlliams was live in Tallahassee to provide details Wednesday morning.

Temple Israel is hosting a Response to the Refugee Crisis tonight addressing children being separated from their families due to citizenship status.

They are calling it a call to action about stopping what they say is the inhumane policy of separating families.

Those who attend tonight will call elected officials and demand changes to the controversial White House policy.

There will also be psychologists speaking out about the effects this has on children.

Organizers say this isn't a political issues, but instead a human issue.

"In Judaism, we have a longstanding philosophy that comes from the Torah about welcoming the stranger as we were once strangers in the land of Egypt," said Stephanie Posner, the director of education and music at Temple Israel Tallahassee. "We've partnered up with HIAS, which is the Hebrew Immigration Aid Society that helps immigrants from all over the world and we wanted to take action. It's just wrong."

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Israel.
