JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville teen is being credited for saving her grandmother who had fallen into the family pool and was struggling underwater.
Sarah Westcott tells The Florida Times-Union she was eating breakfast Wednesday when she heard a splash. She looked outside and saw 80-year-old Georgia Smith in the water. She screamed for her father Jeff Westcott who was in his home office.
The 16-year-old girl dove into the pool and held her above water until her father arrived and helped get Smith out of the water.
Smith says she never learned to swim. She was trying to coax the family's dog back inside the house when she stepped backward and fell in. She lost orientation and was facedown in the water.
She calls her granddaughter a "wonderful girl."
