MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) - A teen in central Florida is facing charges after a video posted online shows a trapped raccoon and opossum being killed.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a news release Monday that his agency received a number of telephone and social media tips from citizens over the actions posted on YouTube and Facebook. Investigators working with the state attorney's office arrested the 17-year-old suspect on charges of felony animal cruelty and discharge of a weapon in a residential area. The teen was being held at Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center.
Captain Bob Brown of Brevard County Animal Services told Florida Today that nuisance animals can be trapped and euthanized, but it's illegal to make animals suffer.
