TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Technology is evolving at the speed of light every year there are more and more advancements and 2019 will be no different.
Tech experts say there are a few trends to look out for in the new year.
By 2020, there will be over 50 billion devices and items plugged into the internet everything from toasters to TV's to cars.
Then, there is the race for faster connectivity. Experts say 5G or 5th generation cell phone networks, are starting to roll out this year.
"40 years ago there was 1G now we are looking at 5G, massive improvements in speeds for your mobile devices and connectivity. Is it coming to Tallahassee? Probably not in 2019 but hopefully in the near future," said Blake Dowling with Aegis Business Technologies.
As of now 5G is available in a handful of cities where the infrastructure can support it.
Another tech buzzword for 2019 is cyber-security.
Dowling said we all know we should have an anti-virus software and a password on our computer but what about on an appliance if it's is connected to the internet?
It may not be top of mind but remember any device that is accessing your internet and your data must be protected.
Dowling also said with the amount of breaches happening month to month people are going to realize the importance of cyber-security.
Dowling said the consequences of some of the breaches that happened in 2018 are going to be realized this year and beyond.
Right now cyber criminals are pulling that stolen data off the dark web and using it in smart targeted personalized cyber attacks.
