TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WTXL) -- Springtime Tallahassee is Saturday and the 48th annual Grand Parade is expected to attract over 70-thousand people to the capital city.
There will be over 100 floats, marching bands, dance groups, krewe floats and more.
This year, the parade will all be led by the Grand Marshal, Tallahassee Community College President Jim Murdaugh.
He has been the President of TCC for six years and a Leon County resident since the 70's.
Murdaugh says he is no stranger to the springtime festival. "Before now, I always thought about the parade as just a wonderful event in the community. I've always enjoyed being down there and just being a part of the crowd and enjoying everything about it. As you know, I mean it's such a remarkable event in the community and it has an economic impart of over 9 million dollars, which is a remarkable thing for a community."
Murdaugh says that even though he holds the title of Grand Marshal, it really means that TCC holds the crown.
"Being invited as Grand Marshal is really being invited as a symbol of the 50th year of Tallahassee Community College. It's exciting for me personally. But it's really more about recognizing the contributions of our college over the past 50 years. So when they invited me the conversation was really about how can we bring the two things together."
The parade will start at 10:30 am, just south of the intersection of Monroe and Brevard street.
