TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)- More than 500 athletes took to the mats Saturday and Sunday at Tallahassee Community College.
Sunday was the final day of the Gym Force Classic. Hundreds of female gymnasts competed for titles in the 1st Amateur Athletic Union North Qualifier, competing on the vault, uneven bars and balance beam.
Tallahassee's own Gym Force Gymanistics Team competed in the event. One gymnast says competitions like this are exciting events for the team.
"I've been competing for a long time and it's really the team work, seeing all of your friends competing and being together as one team in this competition," said gymast Kathryn Crotty.
A coach added that the competition takes lots of work, dedication, and practice. "Those athletes train multiple hours each week to prepare them selves for this competition. Our upper level athletes, this week are probably training close to 18 to 15 hours a week just to get ready to compete," said Coach Kevin Standriff.
