TAYLOR COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - Hurricane Hermine hit the Big Bend more than six weeks ago. But businesses in Taylor County are still reeling from the damage.

The county was granted partial assistance from FEMA and the Small Business Administration (SBA).

The Taylor County Chamber of Commerce said businesses are scrambling to get back in shape, even if that means getting help on their own.

The chamber said a few businesses have resorted to working with their own insurance companies.

Taylor County did not receive individual assistance from FEMA or physical injury disaster loans from the SBA.

Chamber Director Dawn Taylor said local businesses needed to act fast to keep from losing revenue with every passing day.

"It's very frustrating and disconcerting, just because they've all been struggling," said Taylor, "You know, the economy hasn't been the best the last few years as it is. So, on top of that, this has just been a big hit for them, and they're struggling. They really are."

Taylor County Emergency Management is still urging residents to apply for federal assistance.

The county is eligible for what's called Economic Injury Disaster loans from the SBA.
