TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A plant that produces snack foods is closing down in Perry by the end of September.

Snyder's Lance made the announcement that it's going to cut its workforce around the globe by 250 positions, effective by the end of this week.

County and city leaders met behind closed doors at the Taylor County Development Authority Tuesday to discuss the future.

WTXL was outside the meeting and no one there would give us additional details but they did hand us a statement saying:

"This morning the TCDA hosted a rapid response meeting on the Snyder-Lance closure announcement. A representative from Career Source-North Florida, Taylor County, City of Perry and TCDA were present.

This group has also been in close contact with the Governor's Office.

The group discussed a number of programs and intiatives to meet this challenge and will move forward on the agreed upon steps. All local parties are working hard to help offset the impact of the announcement to the employees and the community.

The TCDA will provide further written updates as more information is available."

WTXL spoke with a resident who told us what this plant means to the community:

Now the CEO says this is a difficult decision for the organization, but it is the required first step to improve financial performance.
