TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — State wildlife officials are hosting workshops and webinars on the management of tarpon and bonefish in state and federal waters off Florida.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Division of Marine Fisheries Management is hosting three public workshops the first week of April and a statewide webinar on April 8th to gather input on the issue.
A commission statement released Saturday says the proposal will be discussed as a draft rule at the April 17th meeting in Tallahassee. It will include possible changes for catch-and-release-only fisheries. Among the possible changes are: Eliminating the tarpon bag limit, modifying the tarpon tag program, and discontinuing the bonefish tournament exemption permit.
The public events will be held in St. Petersburg, Dania Beach and Key Colony Beach.
