THOMASVILLE, GA (WTXL) - A tanker truck carrying more than 8,000 gallons of gasoline flipped, spilling gas and diesel onto the roadway.
According to the Thomas County Sheriff's Office, a tanker truck making a left turn from U.S. 19 South on to U.S. 84 flipped, causing gas and diesel to spill out.
The intersection has been closed off and some local businesses in the area have been evacuated as a precaution, deputies said. Deputies are asking anybody who needs to travel near the area to find an alternate route.
Deputies said crews are not yet being allowed near the truck because of the fumes. Deputies said that crews from other areas are being called in to assist in the clean-up, including a hazmat unit from Jacksonville.
Officials had to cut a hole in the tanker to drain it. There is no word on any injuries at this time.
